Item Access Over Ownership – Trust and Sustainability in Evolving Consumer Preferences(Chitkara University Publications, 2024-10-10) Nitin Patwa; Dhrupad Mathur; Umesh Kothari; Ahmed Nadzry AzlilBackground: The sharing economy (SE) has transformed traditional consumption patterns, emphasizing access over ownership. Digital platforms have expanded the scope of sharing beyond close social circles, creating an ecosystem where trust and sustainability play a crucial role. While prior research has explored the economic and technological drivers of the SE, there is a growing need to understand the psychological mechanisms influencing consumer participation. Self-Determination Theory (SDT) and the Mindset Theory of Action Phases (MAP) offer insights into the motivational and cognitive factors driving individuals toward shared consumption. Purpose: This study examines the interplay between trust, sustainability, and consumer attitudes toward the sharing economy, exploring how intrinsic and extrinsic motivations shape participation. Specifically, it investigates how psychological needs and mindset shifts influence engagement in SE platforms and whether sustainability concerns act as a moderating factor. Methods: A quantitative research design used structural equation modeling (SEM) to analyze survey data from respondents. The study develops and tests a conceptual framework linking trust, sustainability, and consumer motivation, incorporating latent constructs derived from SDT and MAP. Results: Preliminary findings indicate that trust significantly mediates consumer willingness to participate in SE platforms. Sustainability considerations also enhance participation, particularly among consumers with strong intrinsic motivation. The results further suggest that individuals with a deliberative mindset are more likely to engage in SE when sustainability benefits are evident, while those with an implemental mindset focus more on trust and economic incentives. Conclusion: This study contributes to the growing discourse on consumer psychology in the sharing economy by integrating motivation theories with sustainability and trust factors. The findings have practical implications for platform designers and policymakers seeking to foster greater participation in SE models.Item Corporate Governance and Firm Performance: A Bibliometric Insight (2000–2025)(Chitkara University Publications, 2024-10-10) KamrunnishaPurpose: This study provides a comprehensive bibliometric insight into the intellectual structure, performance trends, and thematic evolution of research examining the relationship between corporate governance and firm performance from 2000 to 2025. Despite the vast number of empirical investigations into governance–performance dynamics, a systematic science-mapping analysis integrating performance and intellectual network perspectives remains scarce. Methods: Data were retrieved from the Scopus database using a defined Boolean search string focusing on corporate governance mechanisms (e.g., board characteristics, ownership structure, audit committee, CEO duality) and firm performance indicators (e.g., ROA, ROE, Tobin’s Q). The final dataset included 1,245 peer-reviewed journal articles indexed under the Business, Management, and Accounting category. Analytical techniques included performance analysis, co-authorship mapping, keyword co-occurrence, and co-citation analysis using Bibliometrix (R) and VOSviewer. Findings: Results indicate a sustained annual growth rate of approximately 9.2%, reflecting increasing scholarly interest post-2010. The United States, the United Kingdom, and China dominate the publication landscape, while India and Malaysia emerge as rising contributors. Thematic clustering reveals four dominant research streams: (1) board structure and monitoring; (2) ownership and control mechanisms; (3) governance–performance mediators such as leverage and innovation; and (4) ESG-oriented and sustainability governance. Recent years (2019–2025) demonstrate a clear shift toward integrating sustainability, stakeholder theory, and digital governance. Implications: The study is limited to Scopus-indexed articles and English-language publications. Nevertheless, it provides an updated knowledge structure and a future research agenda for governance–performance scholarship. Originality: This paper is among the first to present a 25-year bibliometric synthesis of corporate governance and firm performance, mapping the field’s evolution from classical agency theory to emerging sustainability and digital governance paradigms.Item Determinants of External Debt in Developing Countries: The Case of Algeria(Chitkara University Publications, 2024-10-15) Fatma Fettouche; Aboubaker KhoualedBackground: Developing countries seek to eliminate external debt problems towards financial obligations with a view of alleviating the debt burden to avert economic volatility in the context of debt accumulation. Since the beginning of the 1970s, developing countries, including Algeria, have experienced rapid growth in external debt accumulation in an effort to finance domestic deficits and not enter into economic recession. All these reasons ignore the topic of external debt as an interesting topic of study. This study attempts to analyse and measure some of Algeria’s external debt indicators during the study period. Purpose: This research paper focuses on identifying the determinants of external debt in Algeria. Methods: The study utilized the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model and cointegration test to analyze both short- and long-term relationships among the study variables from 1990 to 2021. Results: The findings show that the exchange rate and government spending significantly and positively impact external debt in the long run, whereas GDP per capita and foreign direct investment are significantly negatively correlated with external debt. The short-term results align with those of the long term. Conclusions: The paper advises that the Algerian government and other developing countries should assess their foreign debts, rationalize government spending, diversify their economies, and enhance their investment climates.Item Mapping Social Media Research Trends in Hospitality and Tourism: A Bibliometric Perspective(Chitkara University Publications, 2024-10-25) Ishani Sharma; Namita Sharma; Nitin PatwaBackground: Social media has transformed the landscape of the hospitality and tourism industry, facilitating real-time interactions, user-generated content, and electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM), while also creating challenges for businesses. The rapid growth of technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and mobile platforms has further accelerated social media’s impact on tourist behavior, creating the need for a comprehensive understanding of these trends. Purpose: This study aims to map the research trends in social media within hospitality and tourism, identifying key themes, influential papers, and emerging research areas. By conducting a bibliometric analysis, this paper seeks to provide insights into the evolution of social media research in the industry and highlight future directions for scholars. Methods: A bibliometric analysis was conducted on 1604 documents published between 2004 and 2022, retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. The analysis employed R software and the Biblioshiny interface to perform descriptive assessments, including keyword co-occurrence, co-citation networks, and visual depictions of research trends. The study examined publication types, author collaboration, country productivity, and key topics in the field. Results: The study revealed significant growth in research on social media’s impact on tourist behavior, with a 35.11% annual growth rate. Key themes include eWOM, destination marketing, and consumer behavior, with interdisciplinary contributions from marketing, e-commerce, and tourism studies. The most relevant sources and authors were identified, with “Journal of Business Research” being the most prolific journal. Technological advancements, particularly in artificial intelligence and big data, were found to drive much of the recent research. Conclusion: This study provides a holistic overview of social media research in hospitality and tourism, highlighting its interdisciplinary nature and growing global collaboration. The findings underline the importance of integrating advanced technologies into future research, offering a structured framework for scholars to explore emerging areas such as corporate social responsibility and personalized consumer engagement.Item Mapping the Research Landscape of Green Marketing and Sustainable Tourism: A Bibliometric Perspective(Chitkara University Publications, 2024-10-25) Namita Sharma; Ishani Sharma; Nitin PatwaBackground: Through bibliometric analysis, this study offers a systematic understanding of green marketing and sustainable tourism research, contributing to the academic discourse and offering a foundation for future scholarly work in this evolving field.
